Lyrics:
Got arthritis in my hands.
Can’t play my axe no more.
Someone stole my saxophone,
And now you’re walking out the door.
I once was in the pink
Now I’m just seeing red.
Every cloud’s got a silver lining,
But mine is made of lead.
It seems my colourful life,
Just gets me deeper in strife.
I’m so down I’ve lost my muse,
I’m too blue to sing the blues

I love the taste of whiskey,
Jack Daniels, white wine, and beer.
But all I can drink now is orange juice,
They took my liver out last year.
Always thought I was Leroy Brown Born in Tennessee.
But my Mama lied when I was born
My real name’s Kevin and I’m from Fiji.
I’ve got cancer and agoraphobia.
If you’re a doctor, I don’t wanna know ya.
How many times can I lose?
I’m too blue to play the blues.

My skin is scarred and crimson.
I got 5 more years in prison.
Can’t see my gal named Violet,
Cause last time she caused a riot.
This never ending black mood
Is putting me off my food.
Those pills I take each day
Done turned my hair grey.
I’m so deep down in a hole
Not even the Devil wants my soul.
Maybe its time that I shot through,
Cause I’m too blue to have the blues.

That dirty yellow ex-band of mine
Have left me green with envy.
They switched to playin’ beige country
And now they’ve won a Grammy!
Everyone I know is either dead, or stoned or broke.
Got holes in my shoes, can’t sleep at night,
Got nothing left to smoke.
Never had no purple patch,
There’s always gotta be a catch.
Can’t afford to pay my dues,
I’m too blue for the blues
Technical Notes:
This song is our take on ‘blues’ music, complete with appropriately depressing lyrics… (note the colour references scattered throughout the words - yes he is a Clever Trevor sometimes). It was originally written in the early 2000s and recorded at that time using the same wooden drums and Cakewalk setup used on Continue. We picked it up again in 2022, changed the arrangement, added the riff, and re-recorded it from scratch. The drums are a Roland V-Drum set using EZDrummer samples, and once again we used the Fender Jazz bass and DIed the guitars in various ways with a range of pedals and amplifier simulations. Marty kindly did the Sax solo in his own studio in FNQ, and the vocals were recorded using an AKG-C414 microphone.
