Lyrics:
There's two kinds of music I never used to get.
Country and Western I'm usually happy to forget.
Rhinestones and spangles, Guitars of Gold,
Rednecks and phoney smiles all just leave me cold.
But sometimes you never see what's staring you in the face.
Everything sure has it's place.

You can't deny what makes you cry.
You can't pretend when your heart breaks open wide.
If a song has the power to make you smile when you're feeling sad,
Maybe Country music's not so bad.
Maybe Country music's not so bad.

Well, I'll never be a cowboy.
Ride 'em in!
I drive an SUV not a truck.
Pick up truck!
I may be drunk but my heart ain't broken.
No not yet!
Life's pretty good I'm not down on my luck.

But you'll never ever see me boot scootin in a line,
Or find me in church seeking forgiveness one more time.
I don't need to speed down another dusty road,
Waving flags and raising hell and reaching to reload.
But sometimes if you listen, there's things you finally hear
That come through crystal clear.

You can't deny what makes you cry.
You can't pretend when your heart breaks open wide.
If a song has the power to ease the pain that drives you mad,
Maybe Country music's not so bad.
Maybe Country music's not so bad.

Well I've never been to Nashville.
Tennessee!
And I can't play a mandolin.
Or a steel guitar!
She hasn't run off with my best friend.
No not yet!
So why's the bottle empty again?
Empty again!

You can't deny what makes you cry.
You can't pretend when your feel it deep inside.
If a song makes you realise that you don't need to chase the latest fad,
Maybe Country music's not so bad.
If the song has the power to cheer you up or leave you sad,
Maybe Country music's not so bad.
Maybe Country music's not so bad.
Maybe Country music's not so bad.
Technical Notes:
This is a more recent tune written in 2021 and is clearly about.... well .... C&W music. Some of it is not so bad! This was recorded mostly in our homes using Studio Logic with Scarlett 18i20 and Universal Audio interfaces. Kaspar once again provided his drumming from his place in LA using V-Drums and EZ-Drummer samples, and Trevor's Fender Jazz bass was again DIed with an amplifier simulator in Logic. The piano sounds are by EZkeys and the Accordion is a Logic sample. Theo's brother-in-law Paul connected us with Richard who kindly agreed to play slide for us and we recorded him in sunny Hobart. Later we stole Danielle away for a few moments during a family event to sing for us. David on mandolin was one of the first recordings we made on this track after the guide vocal was done. Les also provided his best twang on a Telecaster with numerous pedals. Once again the AKG-C414 was used for all the acoustic recordings.
